US Beer Delivery!

We take great pleasure in bringing over a 40ft container of fresh beer every six-weeks from California knowing the beer was picked up the week it was packaged and it’s been refrigerated from leaving the brewery to arriving at our London warehouse.

Yesterday saw the return of Palate Wrecker from Green Flash which is one of the most audacious beers ever brewed. Rather than sticking the wort into a ferment
er, the brewing team put it back into the brewing process for a second time by using the wort as if it was water. This double-brew is incredibly hard to get right and brew commercial volumes – but it creates a massively tasty beer that we had the pleasure of tasting in the office yesterday. Man, oh man… it’s awesome and I don’t think stocks will last long.

Also arrived is Windows Up from Alpine which was the first keg to kick at the Green Flash Treasure Chest event in Virginia Beach – even though it wasn’t actually on the blackboard. Originally called ‘Hot Box’ the US label approval folk didn’t like it due to its cannabis association so they had to tweak the name. Suffice to say, this is a MASSIVE hop-bomb of the finest order. As it’s a seasonal release, enjoy it now before it vanishes.

There’s fresh beer in from Ironfire, Black Market, Belching Beaver and Modern Times and we’ve got a few cases of new beer from Fall Brewing.

Expect these to be in Bermondsey tonight for the REDCHURCH TAP TAKEOVER still cold from their journey. They’ll be in Canterbury and Margate next week as well as for our Wholesale customers.

Redchurch Tap Takeover

TONIGHT & This weekend at 128 Druid Street, we’ve invited the Redchurch Brewery to take-over our taps with their awesome beer. Few breweries can successfully feature a quality lager (Brick Lane Lager) alongside a series of wild beers (Tartlette etc) but these guys certainly can.

So, bring your friends down as we’re confident our taps really have something for everyone this weekend.

Online Beer Sales

It’s fair to say that our online ‘shop’ has been down for longer than we planned. This basically comes down to us being unimpressed with it and we’ve been trying to find a suitable replacement. This might sound easy (how hard can it be to create a webshop)? Well, our challenge is that we want all the beer available at our Bermondsey location to be listed online so we need one inventory to fuel both our website and our shop. This has been a challenge…

However, we’re closer than ever to solving this and expect something in weeks rather than months. In the meantime, we’re looking to partner with a couple of really cool sites to get our beers listed and, as ever, we also have some exciting plans we can’t discuss yet ;o)

If you’re in need of anything you see or hear about on our social media grapevine then please give edd@bottle-shop.co.uk a shout as we’ll gladly get a box out to you for £5 per package (up to 24 bottles, minimum order £30).

Rick Astley’s Northern Hop Launch

Here at The BottleShop, we’re no strangers to love. In fact, some of the beer we love the most is made by the mad fermentationists at Mikkeller. In the past they have teamed up with other breweries, artists, record labels and musicians to make some spectacular beers. Their latest collaboration is with none other than Rick Astley! Rick was one of Mikkel’s teenage idols so is a real dream come true for him. Rick is a keen beer drinker, being a proper Northern lad, and all that. The pairing was a serendipitous one.

You know the rules and so do I when it comes to collaborative brewing. Inspiration from both parties to make the best beer possible that reflects both of their tastes. You can see a little bit more about how this beer came to be in a video feature that Vice did here.

We are launching the very special beer at Draft House Hammersmith tomorrow from 2.30pm. A full commitment’s what I’m thinking of, so it would be great to see you there. This beer is exclusively available through us, you wouldn’t get this from any other guys and, it will hit our wholesale list and shops in Bermondsey, Canterbury and Margate next week.

I’m not sure it is possible to awkwardly shoehorn any more lyrics into this post so I’ll just promise I’m never going to let you down with such a tenuous blog post like this again.

Margate Turns 1!

On Friday 9th June, BottleShop: Margate celebrates turning a year old with a party!

In 2016, we opened our third retail site and first dedicated beer bar on the seafront in Margate. Steve, Andrew and Pete have all been coming to Margate for many years and were very motivated to showcase our best breweries, with unbeatable views of Margate Sands.

It’s been wonderful year and this is the perfect occasion for us to thank all the people who have helped us reach our 1st birthday in style. There will be an audiophile sound system, Soulful DJ sets from Claremont 56, oversize balloons, and of course some extra special beers flowing and plenty of cheer!

In due course, we will be reflecting on our 1st year of setting up our bar, the trials, tribulations and lessons learned so please keep an eye on our blog in the coming weeks. We look forward to drawing a line in the sand and thanking you all for your support!

Cloudwater Tap-Takeover

Here at BottleShop: Bermondsey, we’re spoilt when it comes to our ability to host amazing tap-takeovers. Being the public front of such a fantastic wholesale and import operation gives us unrivalled access to the world’s finest beers. In the last month alone we’ve had takeovers from Brewski, Dugges and the mighty Omnipollo.

Recently we were lucky enough to serve some very special beers from Cloudwater. You’ll probably all be aware that Cloudwater’s legendary DIPA series recently came to an end with v.13. Being the brewery they are though, it didn’t take long for them to whip out four new, one off 9.0% beers. This time, for each of the four sessions of the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017 (MBCC), they brewed one such beer. Very kindly they give us two kegs of each beer to tap alongside the sessions in real time.

When we opened at 3pm on Friday night we were pouring their NW DIPA and IIPA. Then at 10am on Saturday we tapped the NE DIPA, followed by their first ever DIPL at 3pm. Needless to say, all four beers were a massive hit. We had customers popping in throughout both days to ensure that they got a taste of all four of these beers.

How long this trend of super hazy, super juicy, mega murky IPAs will last? Your guess is as good as mine. What we do know for sure though, is that for as long as it’s what the people want, then Cloudwater will be at the forefront.

Canterbury Tastings

It was a wonderful, full capacity tasting evening a few weeks ago at BottleShop: Canterbury, where this past month we were tasting Dugges x Cloudwater, Brewski, Mikkeller, Port Brewing, BrewDog, and Prairie.

The idea of this tasting was to highlight how different the beers in a particular style can be. Where the Dugges x Cloudwater Pale Ale Pale Ale Pale Ale is grassy and bitter, the Brewski 45th APA is sweet and juicy. Where BrewDog’s 15% Paradox Rye was intensely rich, boozy, with an oh-so slight burn at the back, the Prairie Paradise was rich, but sweet with coconut and vanilla.

Each month we host these tastings in our Canterbury branch, situated in The Goods Shed next to Canterbury West Station. To stay up to date with the goings on at Canterbury, please sign up for the Canterbury monthly mail out.
